It's Not His Job

Did you see Michael "Grim Reaper" Chertoff on Meet the Press this morning?

Did your head explode?

Denying responsibility, shifting blame to state and city government--which now seems to be the official Rovewellian propaganda line.

Tim Russert (for a change) tried to hold Chertoff's feet to the fire, I'll give him that. But Tim failed to ask him the big question:

If state and local governments are responsible for disaster relief, why do we have Homeland Security and FEMA and Northern Command and the rest of it?

I read somewhere yesterday that the Gulf Coast recovery effort is predicted to cost around $100 billion.

How much do you reckon we pay annually for all the civil and military resources of Homeland Security? I don't have a solid figure handy, but I'll guarantee you it's more than $100 billion.

Our tax dollars in action.

Right, because we white folk only 'find stuff layin around' you see.... and them uppity negros always loot and steal stuff.

I happily explained to a couple asswipe repub friends, that my neighbor who had his brand new 450 Honda race quad stole out of his driveway, and another attempted theft of a quad 3 months later -

    - were BOTH done my weasely white boys and their skanky white girlfriends.

All 4 are now serving lengthy time in the local county jail.

David Neiwert writes this (from WaPo):

The people caught stealing on camera in that majority-black city weren't doing it because they were black. Just as raiders of corporate treasuries don't do it because they are white. Skin color has nothing to do with the urge to take what doesn't belong to you. Poverty also isn't the reason liquor gets stolen in a storm-ravaged city.

The looter on Canal Street in New Orleans and the corporate looter on Wall Street have a similar motive: greed. That is their taproot. And greed is no respecter of pigmentation, income, status or social class.
