Late in the Day for Ethics Training

Bush Orders Staff to Attend Ethics Briefings

Oh, please! Talk about closing the barn door after the horses get out.
According to a memo sent to aides yesterday, Bush expects all White House staff to adhere to the "spirit as well as the letter" of all ethics laws and rules. As a result, "the White House counsel's office will conduct a series of presentations next week that will provide refresher lectures on general ethics rules, including the rules of governing the protection of classified information."

The spirit as well as the letter of the rules and laws? Lectured on by the White House counsel's office? The same White House counsel's office that said it was okay for Mister Bush to ignore both the spirit and the letter of constitutional and treaty law concerning the treatment of prisoners?

Looks like Karl Rove will have to attend. This, no doubt, will be the key to absolving him from involvement with Plamegate. He didn't know any better at the time. He hadn't had the ethics lectures yet.

Poor little guy. They should have given him the ethics lectures years ago. About thirty years ago.

  1. "Refresher lectures!" As if they even understand the meaning of "ethics" in the first place.

Ethics are learned by age 12. If they aren't learned by them, no "refresher" course in the world is gonna help.

What a riot. If only I could laugh.

  2. Oops, "then" not "them." Blame it on the chianti. ;) My husband heard me giggling as I read your post. When I told him why I was laughing, his jaw dropped: "Unbelievably juvenile," he said.

    Uh yeah.

  3. It's never too late in the day for a meaningless PR moment of you're a nitrogen breather. Those of us from the Planet Earth understand poker is a game where ya gotta know when to fold your cards.

If these refresher courses are anything like the corporate puke and pablum that is called "diversity training, " and the like, it will do nothing but increase the sense of entitlement and "fucke 'em" attitude. I thought I had already heard the apex of bull shit, but this is laughable! And insulting to the people of this country.

  5. Kerstin,

This crowd grew up on "ends justify means." Way too late for them to change.

    "Meaningless PR moment." Yep.

"Puke and pablum" indeed. Yes, it's insulting.

So, after killing a few hundred thousand more in meaningless wars, do you think they might concider taking Diplomacy 101?

I'd really hate to see what it takes for them to study basic environmental science.

  7. William,

Maybe "Intro to Basic Humanity" would be appropriate.
