Arlen Specter is on Press the Meat, talking about FISA, spying, and presidential powers. Russert asks him about the spy memo's the committee asked for and that the White House won't hand over.
Sounds to me like Specter's laying the groundwork for backing down without looking like he backed down. He's saying he doesn't really think the committee needs the memo, though he's making noises about subpoenas if shove comes to biff.
I'll be profoundly disappointed if the Senate hearings on spying turn into a big a bust as so many of the other investigations of the administration have been. All for show.
Next week we'll be looking at more angles on the presidential powers matter.
