On Rummy from the Road

A blast from last April on Rummy over at ePluribus. When I get home, I'll have a few choice things to say about the American Legion's new role as part of the Carl Rove election strategy team.

  1. Badger,

    Yeah, they really do wonder.

They give me the creeps. Most of them are trying to relive glory days.

  4. I have always assumed that massive data mining is being done with all internet sites, because it would be out of character for the NSA to NOT be doing this. But I refuse to allow that to temper my written comments, and I see it as being similar to the story of how a town responded to anti-Semitism in its midst by all of the town folk (mostly non-Jewish) placing Stars of David in their windows. If we have Freedom of Speech but no one speaks, we have abdicated OUR responsibilty.

I would like to know what has gone on behind the scenes, WRT the the dissenting retired Generals, and what has happened to prevent others from coming forth. I suspect they've all received some very chilling messages, the contents of which served to make them wonder just what it was they had fought for in the first place. I suspect they've been told straight out to shut up, or they'll face serious consequences. As noted by Jeff months ago, Rumsfeld did, after all, specify that ALL retirees can be recalled to active duty, whereupon they can be held to UCMJ rules about criticizing their "superiors." I hope the Generals all understand that if they obey this last order, they've turned their backs on the very ideals upon which they based their careers and sacrifices.

And yes, it has been long apparent that the march is on to Iran. The media drumbeat follows the same cadence as what we watched going into Iraq. The Bush Administration is bound and determined to entwine us in Iran well before they leave office - that is well-documented. We are watching a rogue regime in action, and you have to give them credit: they know exactly what they want and they'll do anything to get it, and personally, I don't see that they'll be stopped.

    Rumsfeld is so much worse:

Who knows, he may even prefer that we loath him for his accomplishments in Iraq rather than elsewhere.
